Tropical Storm Isaias forms, could impact Florida this weekend

Tropical Storm Isaias formed on Wednesday evening, and will continue a track through the Caribbean over the next few days. The system could eventually impact parts of Florida this weekend. This is the earliest than an ‘I’-named storm, or 9th-named storm, has formed. Records date back to 1851.

Tropical Storm Warning issued for NYC, NJ as Fay moves northward

Tropical Storm Fay officially formed on Thursday evening, designated by the National Hurricane Center at 5:00pm EDT. The tropical disturbance had spent the day strengthening and organizing in the warm waters off the coast of North Carolina. The storm will shift quickly northward, impacting the NYC Area with heavy rain and wind on Friday. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the NYC Metro Area from 6:00am on July 10th through 2:00am on July 11th.

Maximum sustained winds are currently near 60 miles per hour and the storm is moving a northward at 12mph. Over the next 12 hours, the storm is expected to pick up speed and move to a position near Tom’s River, NJ by 5pm on Friday. By 8am Saturday, Tropical Storm Fay will be well inland over New York State or Vermont and weakening to Tropical Depression.

African dust expected to reach US coast next week

An outbreak of dust originating in Africa will spread westward across the Atlantic Ocean in the next few days, reaching the United States coast by next week. The dust is expected to first head towards the Gulf Coast, but could spread elsewhere depending on how the weather pattern evolves.

Seemingly annual “1000 year” flood arrives again as Imelda hammers Texas

Two years removed from Hurricane Harvey, which brought over 60″ of rainfall to parts of Southeast Texas, areas near Houston are experiencing generational flooding once again. Rainfall totals of over 40″ have been reported over the past three days from the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda.
